" I was not born to hate but to love" . "Oὔτοι συνέχθειν, ἀλλὰ συμφιλεῖν ἔφυν".

...Those are the words of Antigone, the principal character in one of the best, or maybe the best ancient Greek tragedies.
"Oὔτοι συνέχθειν, ἀλλὰ συμφιλεῖν ἔφυν".   
The ancient tragedy by Sophocles, was first performed exactly 2455 years ago at 442 AD, but you think like it was written today.
No matter how many times you have seen it performed, the words are hitting you as it is the first time.
The message is eternal.
I had the chance to watch another performance of the tragedy yesterday evening in Athens .
The place and the direction were different this time, but the words and the messages never change.
I will post and try to translate for you  a few more verses from the original text, the "hymn to love", as it is sung by the chorus.
Ἔρως ἀνίκατε μάχαν,
Ἔρως, ὃς ἐν κτήμασι πίπτεις,
ὃς ἐν μαλακαῖς παρειαῖς
νεάνιδος ἐννυχεύεις,
φοιτᾷς δ᾽ ὑπερπόντιος ἔν τ᾽
ἀγρονόμοις αὐλαῖς·...
Oh Love that can not be defeated at battle
Love who do not care about wealth.
who keeps vigil in the soft cheeks of a young girl at night.
who travels over the vast seas
and the small huts of people over the lands..

Δεν γεννήθηκα για να μισώ παρά για ν΄αγαπώ.
Τα λόγια που βάζει ο Σοφοκλης στο στόμα της Αντιγόνης που πρωτοπαίχτηκε πριν από 2455 χρόνια, το 442 π.Χ. είναι πάντα επίκαιρα.
Είχα την χαρά να παρακολουθήσω μια παράσταση χθες το βράδυ στο αίθριο του Μουσείου Μπενάκη, στην οδό Πειραιώς και ήταν σαν να τ' άκουσα πάλι για πρώτη φορά.
Μ' άρεσε η παράσταση και ο τρόπος που παρουσιάστηκε και η ευρηματικότητα του σκηνοθέτη. Και ακόμη θυμάμαι από το σχολειό κομάτια από το αρχαίο κείμενο, όπως τον ύμνο στον έρωτα που απαγγέλει ο χορός.
