Nea Moni (New Monastery) of Chios (Ι). Νέα Μονή Χίου(Ι)

A monument of the Byzantine era, declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. An old monastery built at the beginning of 11th century A.D., protected and in a state of repair, situated in the middle of the beautiful island of Chios. I will take you to a short tour of the place, the outside first, then we shall go inside. My photographs, I am afraid, are not very favorable of the place, especially those taken inside the Church of the Monastery, as I was not allowed to use a flash, and i m not known for my steady hand. Ένα Βυζαντινό μνημείο του 11ου αιώνα μ.Χ. Ανακυρηγμένο από την UNESCO σαν μνημείο Παγκόσμιας Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς. Ότι σώζεται από το Μοναστήρι, προκαλεί το δέος. Τόσο η τοποθεσία και ο περιβάλλων χώρος, όσο και τα μοναδικά ψηφιδωτά στο εσωτερικό. Φοβούμε πως οι φωτογραφίες μου, ιδιαίτερα εκείνες που τραβήχτηκαν στο εσωτερικό, δεν δείχνουν το πραγματικό μεγαλείο του μνημείου. Ο φωτισμός δεν ήταν επαρκής, δεν μπορούσα να χρησιμοποιήσω το φλάς και δεν φημίζομαι για το σταθερό μου χέρι. Θα ξεκινήσω όμως την περιήγηση με το εξωτερικό πρώτα, και μετά, μαζύ, θα επισκευτούμε το εσωτερικό της Μονής. Συνιστώ να διαβάσετε περισσότερα για την Μονή στον σύνδεσμο που έχω από πάνω. There is a beach at the south of the island of Chios. It is called "the black stones" or "black pebbles" (Μαύρα Βόλια-Mavra Volia in Greek), not without a reason. The  waters are cool and crystal clear but walking on the pebbles, after they have been exposed to the bright sun for a few hours, and if you are barefoot, its like trying to walk barefoot on a hot frying pan.
Μια παραλία στα νότια του νησιού λέγεται "Μαύρα Βόλια". Η θαλασσα είναι κρυστάλινη και τα νερά δροσερά. Αλλά όταν προσπαθήσης να βαδίσης ξυπόλυτος στα πυρωμένα από τον ήλιο βότσαλα, είναι σαν να προσπαθείς να βαδίσης σε καυτό τηγάνι.

Near the village square, at the end of a narrow archway, is a beautiful small church, a real monument of the Byzantine era. The church of the Apostles. Beautifully preserved from the 13th century a.D. and decorated with frescoes done by famous painters of the time. Enjoy.
