Vespers on the mountains.

On the White Mountains of Crete there is still some snow left. A little lower there is this little church I have shown you before, from my last years visit. It was where I had taken photographs of the eagle. Last Sunday, our church was celebrating the Pentecost. Fifty days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. And next day, Monday, we celebrate the Holy Spirit. The little church is dedicated to the Holy Spirit. And every year, the villagers gather up there, to celebrate. On Sunday evening for the Vespers, and next morning for the Liturgy. They stay up there all night.
Waiting for the priests to arrive.
Lighting a candle in the narrow church.
The ceremony has started. It had to be done outside as there is not much space for all inside the little church.
The sticks the people are holding, are not just for walking on the mountains. Most of them are shepherds and they use them as tools also.
Saying prayers and blessing the Bread, the Wine and the Olive Oil.
One can feel closer to God up here. And the view is always rewarding.

Costas this is wonderful. Thank you so much for taking us here. This way of worshiping God really appeals to me. Simpler. More like tiny humans giving honor to such a Great God of the Universe. Consider the moon you photographed yesterday and the size of its Creator in comparison. And yet... a simple church high up in the hills will do. He asks no more of us. I love this.

If ever I visit your land... THIS is where I'd like to go.
