While I was in Crete, I visited the town of Rethimnon, where I took a walk in the old town in the evening. There were thousands of swallows resting on the power cables in central town. A beautiful sight to watch but dangerous to stay under them.
Σε μια βρα;δυνή βόλτα στην παλιά πόλη στο Ρέθυμνο. Όπως περπατούσα είδα χιλιάδες χελιδόνια να ξεκουράζονται πάνω στα σύρματα της ΔΕΗ. Όμορφο θέαμα να τα παρακολουθεί κανείς από μακρυά. Επικίνδυνο όμως να μείνεις για πολύ κάτω από τα σύρματα.

Incredible, wonderful photos! We see something like this in the autumn, when the birds are ready to fly to warmer places.
They look like barn swallows. Our swallows left a month ago, but how I miss them. Great pictures!

There are some blogger friends asking about the technical details of these photographs.
I used my Nikon D90 camera with the Sigma DC 18-50 f/2.8 lens, at 35 mm.
ISO settings at 800. Speed was at 1/60 sec.
Auto white balance.
I was also using the built in flash.
And the swallows were also illuminated by the street lighting.
