Walking the streets of Athens(IV). Syntagma Square. Περπατώντας στους δρόμους της Αθήνας(ΙV). Πλατεία Συνάγματος

The Parliament building at the top of the square, with the monument of the unknown soldier below it.
When I remember all those who made the history of modern Greece, in that building, I feel sad. Its current inhabitants are not worth it. The decisions are not taken here any more.

Το κτίριο της Βουλής με το μνημείο του Αγνώστου Στρατιώτη. Όσο θυμούμαι τους παλιότερους που πέρασαν από εδώ και έγραψαν ιστορία μέσα σ' αυτό το κτίριο, με πιάνει απελπισία με τους σημερινούς ενοίκους του. Δεν τους αξίζει να βρίσκονται εκεί. Οι αποφάσεις δεν παίρνονται πια εδώ.

The streets should not be so empty at this hour especially at days like this. Panepistimiou Street should be full of people and traffic at around noon, the days before Christmas. But there are still a few tourists taking the sightseeing tour.

Οι δρόμοι δεν θάπρεπε να είναι τόσο άδειοι τις μέρες αυτές. Η Πανεπιστημίου, το μεσημέρι, παραμονές των Χριστουγέννων θάπρεπε νάναι γεμάτη κόσμο. Αλλά υπάρχουν ακόμη μερικοί τουρίστες που κάνουν τον γύρο της Αθήνας.

The hotels and the cafes at one side, again not many people. The only time the swquare is filled and there is some activity is during demonstrations.
 And not many people in the square itself now.

Η πλατεία, τα ξενοδοχεία στην μια μεριά και οι καφετέριες. Πάλι ελάχιστη κίνηση. Μόνο όταν γίνονται διαδηλώσεις γεμίζει.

Ermou street. One of the most popular street for shopping downtown Athens. At times past.
Η οδός Ερμού. Ο πιο δημοφιλής τόπος για αγορές. Σε εποχές αλλοτινές, περασμένες.

Maybe, we shall hear the Christmas Carols sang from this stage.
Μπορεί ν' ακούσουμε τα κάλαντα από αυτήν εδώ την σκηνή.
