The river flows down the narrow valley, high up on the mountains of northern Greece. Then there is that rock in the way, but the water, working patiently for thousands of years, eats up the the rock, and creates a narrow passage so it can continue its flow down to the sea. The local people needed the freedom to move from one side of the water to the other, so they made a stone bridge at the narrower spot of the river, near the rock. Ta water's passage through the rock is called "Portitsa" or "Little Door" in Greek. and the bridge is called "The Bridge of Portitsa".

Ο μικρός ποταμός κυλά ήρεμα κάτω από το χωριό Σπήλαιο των Γρεβενών, στην μικρή κοιλάδα ψηλά στην Πίνδο. Μέχρι που συναντά τον βράχο που του κλείνει τον δρόμο. Μα το νερό, υπομονετικά, για χιλιάδες χρόνια τρώει τον βράχο και δημιουργεί το πέρασμα για να τρέξει χαμηλώτερα προς την θάλασσα. Οι ντόπιοι έπρεπε να έχουν την ευχέρεια να περνούν από την μια μεριά του ποταμού στην άλλη και έτσι έφτιαξαν μια πέτρινη γέφυρα στο πιο στενό σημείο κοντά στον βράχο. Το πιο στενό σημείο κοντά στον βράχο, όποι το νερό έχει δημιουργήσει το πέρασμα, το λένε "Πορτίτσα" και η γέφυρα είναι γνωστή σαν η Γέφυρα της Πορτίτσας.

I have shown photographs of this old stone bridge before, but again I could not resist stopping once more as I was driving by. It is the bridge of Ziakas and it has been beautifully restored, for the use of pedestrians only. You can also see the reflections of the new bridge for the use of vehicles at the last photograph.

Σας έχω ξαναδείξει φωτογραφίες από το όμορφο παλιό γεφύρι του Ζιάκα, κοντά στο ομώνυμο χωριό στα γρεβενά. Αλλά δεν μπόρεσα ν' αντισταθώ στον πειρασμό να σταματήσω ξανά όπως περνούσα δίπλα. Μπορείτε να δείτε επίσης τις αντανακλάσεις της καινούριας γέφυρας στην τελευταία φωτογραφία.
