Walking along the narrow streets inside the castle of Monemvasia(IX).

Everywhere you dig inside the castle of Monemvasia, you will find more History. Or you are stepping on it as you walk the narrow streets. A couple more photographs of very ancient christian churches, being excavated.
Windows to the past.

There are blazons or coats of arms carved above the lintels on some buildings. On this one the day the building was finished is carved on the marble. March 6th 1697.
The double headed eagle of the Byzantine Empire is carved here.
The animal bellow, looks like the lion of Venice.
For how long have these bells been calling the Christians to mass...?
Για πόσα χρόνια αυτές οι καμπάνες καλούν τους χριστιανούς στην λειτουργία..;

Costas, what a wonderful place to explore with your eyes and a camera. The history behind these structures is amazing and it's always fascinated me how much detail ancient buildings had with far less expensive machinery available to construct them.

Wow! The history...
I know I've said it before, but I'm jealous of the history you are able to see. Nothing like that in my world....thanks Costas!
