Bridges. Γεφύρια.

In Grevena area, north western Greece, there are many old stone bridges as the terrain is mountainous. A new motorway was built recently, going through all northern Greece from west to east. There are also many bridges built in the same area. Which kind you prefer..? the old or the new..?
Στην περιοχή των Γρεβενών, στην Πίνδο, υπαρχουν πολλά παλιά γεφύρια. Εχουνε κατασκευαστεί είσης πολλές νέες γέφυρες τώρα, με την διάνοιξη της Εγνατίας οδού. Τί προτιμάτε. Τις παλιές ή της καινούριες;
 Aziz Aga bridge.
Η γέφυρα Αζίζ Αγά.
Kagelia bridge over the same stream, higher up on the mountains.
Η γέφυρα "Καγκέλια", πάνω από το ίδιο ρεμμα, πιο ψηλά στα βουνα.
Two bridges on "Egnatia" motorway, in the same area.

  4. Nice angles, the old are nice, but the new get you there faster.

  5. The older bridges have an elegance the newer bridges don't possess. The older ones are distinctive too of their place. The new ones, especially from underneath, look just the same as ones all over Europe (and probably further afield too).

  9. For aesthetic purposes, the old ones. For driving over purposes, definitely the ugly new ones.

  10. I tend to agree with Rob and Mandy, aesthetically I definitely prefer the old ones and these are so beautiful, but for an easier drive I would probably prefer the new ugly ones. Marvelous captures as always, Costas! Have a lovely evening!

  11. Like Gerald mentioned, the old ones might all look alike. This looks very 'southern California'!
Nice, and a whole different view of your side of the world.

  18. And yet, those old ones have certainly withstood a great deal to still be standing and in use today!!!

    Interesting contradictions!!!

  19. I prefer the old! Always the old...
There isn't as much character to the new ones. I'm sure they are more efficient and safe, but still...
