Villages on the mountains(I).

During my recent wanderings on the mountains of northern Greece, I passed through, or saw from far away some beautiful small villages, situated either on the ridges or tops of mountains or hidden deep in their valleys. Some of them are so high, that they are being deserted during winter as they are covered for many months under a thick blanket of snow.

More Churches on the mountains.

As I was driving on the mountains of northern Greece, I came across more churches, situated in the middle of nowhere, away from villages. They seem to be built of stones, the same traditional way like the one shown in my previous post. Only the three I am showing you today are not as old as the previous one.

An old church on the mountains.

I am always fascinated by old churches, built centuries ago, according to our tradition,  by local masons and craftsmen, most of them self-taught, as this one. It is what is remaining from an old monastery, in a small village on Mt Pindos in northern Greece. Unfortunately, I found the church locked so I could not take a few photographs from the inside.

I am back with you again.

It has been over a month since my last post. And I have really missed your company. A lot has happened since my last post. Have moved to another flat. It was a long process as things were not exactly ready as they should be. Had a lot to do, had some words with the contractor, did not have phone or internet for some time etc. etc. Then, after things started getting under some control, I took off for the mountains of northern Greece where I could relax a bit and get away from the heat wave hitting the capital. I will start posting for you photographs from my journey. These first post is of two families of storks living and growing up across the street in a small town in central Greece. One family on top of the old bell tower of the church and the other on a power pole.
